The Secret of a Longer Life: Going to Church.

Regular churchgoing is good for your health, according to a report. Scientists have found that a religious lifestyle dramatically raises your chances of living longer. The study just published has found churchgoers have lower blood pressure, suffer less from depression and have stronger immune systems. In a survey of 126,000 people, it was found that regular attenders at church were nearly a third more likely to live longer. But the US psychologist, Dr Michael McCullough could not offer any concrete answers as to why.

One theory is that those actively religious tend to take better care of themselves in health areas. The health benefits may be also from the social support and friendship derived from frequent church attendence. The study, published in journal Health Psycology also suggested it may be due to churchgoers' abstemious lifestyles. One scientist said: 'Religion may be preventing people from doing things which are unhealthy such as drinking alcohol.'
